ENGAGE MIAMI HIRING A COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
Engage Miami and the Engage Miami Civic Fund are seeking a full-time Communications Director to enhance our ability to communicate with our members, the public, the media, and young people across Miami-Dade. We’re looking for an authentic, talented and resourceful communicator who is passionate about building grassroots political power for young people in Miami-Dade County.
The Communications Manager will manage our online presence, media outreach, printed materials, and special projects to advance the goals of our organization. This is a new position for Engage and presents a tremendous opportunity for leadership, creativity, innovation, and impact. You’ll be part spokesperson, part reporter, and part creative guru. If you are a strategic thinker with strong written communication skills, the ability to break down important and complex topics, have a good eye for our brand, and are deeply motivated to elevate Engage Miami and the voices of young people, then we encourage you to apply!
You’d be a good fit if you’re comfortable writing for a wide variety of audiences (sometimes it's a press release, sometimes it’s a Facebook post that’s meant to make a young person laugh out loud), if you have some graphic design skills or at least a great eye for good, clean design, and you can juggle multiple projects without dropping the ball. Bonus points if you have previous communications experience, especially with email writing, press, and social media. You’d be working on a very supportive team, with opportunities for growth and taking initiative on big projects. The Communications Director will report to the Executive Director.
Engage Miami and the Engage Miami Civic Fund’s missions are to build a more just, democratic, and sustainable Miami by developing a culture of civic participation for young people that is BOLD, CREATIVE, IMPACTFUL, and LOCAL. We are shattering the myth that young people and Millennials are apathetic by reimagining civic access and information for the 21st Century in Miami. We believe in “Speaking Youth To Power” by helping young people register to vote & learn everything they need to know to cast a ballot. We develop new civic leaders, we win social justice policy change, and we build power for our generation- the largest and most diverse- in the street and at the ballot box. We are an affiliate of the Alliance For Youth Action, a national network of local groups helping America’s biggest and most diverse generation take our seat at democracy’s decision-making table.
Work closely with the Executive Director to develop, implement, and evaluate a communications strategy and plan that supports and advances the goals of the organization
Spearhead our winning Knight Cities Challenge project- Rep MIA- which will present the most relevant information about local representatives’ votes in easily shareable, bite-sized chunks directly to people’s smart phones.
